Instagram grid splitter — one photo across 3, 6 or 9 posts

Split one photo into 3, 6 or 9 Instagram posts that form one big picture on your profile. Postfolio cuts the tiles at 3:4 (the profile-grid shape since 2025), previews the grid as Instagram shows it and numbers the files in posting order. In the browser, on iPhone and on Android — no watermark, no login.

How to split a photo into an Instagram grid

  1. Pick the grid. In the web app or the iPhone/Android app open + Add → Templates → Profile and choose Grid trio (3 posts), Grid six (3 × 2) or Grid nine (3 × 3).
  2. Add one photo. Tap a tile and pick the photo once — every tile gets its slice. Tap Profile grid to see it exactly as your profile will show it; drag and pinch to place it.
  3. Export and post in order. Export gives you numbered files. Post 01 first, then the rest in order, with nothing else in between.

The free way: one row of three

Add a wide photo, double-tap it, choose Crop → Split-Panorama → 3 slides and export at 3:4. Post the three files as separate posts, starting with the last one (03, then 02, then 01) — they line up as one continuous row on your profile.

Questions, answered straight.

Is the Instagram grid splitter free?
A one-row split of three posts is free: use the seamless panorama split with three slides and post the files in reverse order. The ready-made Grid trio, Grid six and Grid nine templates — which also number the files in posting order and preview the 3:4 profile crop — are part of Pro, a one-time €4.99. You can try them free before buying.
What size should each grid tile be?
Since 2025 the profile grid shows posts as 3:4 tiles. Export the tiles at 1080 × 1440 (3:4) and they appear in full; at 1080 × 1350 (4:5) Instagram trims a strip on the left and right of each tile in the grid.
In which order do I post the tiles?
Backwards. The newest post lands top-left, so the bottom-right tile goes first and the top-left tile last. Postfolio's grid templates name the files in exactly that order — post 01 first.
Can I post something else in between?
Not until the whole grid is up — every post in between shifts the tiles. After that, new posts always move everything by one place; post in multiples of three to keep rows intact.
Does it add a watermark?
No. Postfolio never adds a watermark, free or Pro.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The splitter runs in your browser or on your phone; there is no server and no account.

Try it on your own photos.

The web app is free — no login, no watermark, no time limit. Your photos never leave your device.
