How to split a panorama for Instagram

  1. Open the splitter and drop in the wide photo. In the free web app tap Templates → Panorama (or on the phone, the same in the iOS/Android app). Choose two or three slides — a 2:1 photo suits two, a 3:1 photo suits three.
  2. Place it once. Zoom and drag the photo across the whole width; Postfolio treats the slides as one canvas. Straighten the horizon here if needed. Add a border only here, before the split — a border added afterwards breaks the seam.
  3. Export and post in order. Export gives you numbered PNG files at 1080 × 1440. Upload them as one carousel, slide 1 first, and do not let Instagram crop or filter them.

Sizes that work

3 slides3:4 · 1080 × 1440 each3240 × 1440 (9:4)Real panoramas, wide landscapes

3:4 is the format Instagram's profile grid uses since 2025, so 3:4 slides show in full both in the feed and on your profile. More on every format: Instagram sizes 2026.

Panorama splitter vs. doing it in Photoshop or Canva

In Photoshop you need artboards, guides at exact pixels and three separate exports — and a border or a slightly different export size gives you a visible seam. Canva has no true panorama split; you place the photo three times by hand. Postfolio slices one canvas at export, so the seam is mathematically zero. If you want the full story, read why seams appear and how to avoid them.

Questions, answered straight.

Is the Instagram panorama splitter free?
Yes. Splitting a panorama into two or three slides, placing it and exporting every slide is free in the Postfolio web app and in the iOS and Android apps — no login, no watermark, no time limit.
Does it add a watermark?
No. Exports are clean PNG files at full size, free or Pro. Postfolio never puts a watermark on your photos.
What size should the panorama be?
For two slides at 3:4, a source of at least 2160 × 1440 px; for three slides, 3240 × 1440 px. Wider or taller is fine — Postfolio crops to the exact slice. For 4:5 slides the numbers are 2160 × 1350 and 3240 × 1350.
How many slides can I split into?
Two or three. Instagram shows carousel slides edge to edge, so the panorama continues without a gap when swiped. For more than three pieces use the profile-grid split instead.
Why do other splitters leave a visible seam?
Because they cut by eye, add a border after the cut, or export slides at slightly different sizes. Postfolio treats the panorama as one canvas and slices it at exact pixel boundaries at export time, so slide 1's right edge is slide 2's left edge — to the pixel.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. The web app runs in Safari and Chrome on any phone, and the free iOS and Android apps have the same splitter with direct access to your camera roll.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser or on your phone. No upload, no server, no account.

Try it on your own photos.

The web app is free — no login, no watermark, no time limit. Your photos never leave your device.

iOS and Android: free download, full editor. Pro is a one-time purchase — never a subscription.
